A Royal Dinner!

Blue Windows Underground Restaurant Promotes Royalty in the Month of June 2007 :

The results are in!

The Red Zinfandel tasting was terrific!

Our friends Ric and Sandy had opened their home to host our monthly tasting and the atmosphere was quite jovial! After a refreshing glass of Riesling while we were gathering, we sat down to try some of the best wines so far. Some of those Red Zins showed a lot of depth and complexity. Some were drier than some others, some were younger, some were older... bottom line, here is how we all voted:

  • Our favorite was the 2003 Dry Creek Old Vines Zin (Costco $23, some 2003 remain but 2004 is already on the shelves.. hurry!)

  • Very close behind was a special bottle brought in by Tom and Jen: Robert Mondavi Zin, not available in stores, it can only be purchased at the winery.

  • In 3rd position came the famous 2004 Rombauer Zin (really tasty with lots of red fruit forward)

  • Mari and I also enjoyed the Sobon Red Zin, quite dry and complex, this wine is worth putting away another year or two!

  • A fun and worth mentioning bottle was the Poizin by Armida Winery. The packaging is attractive (?) and the wine is good!
