Merlot mania!

The Merlots were terrific! We tasted 10 wonderful wines. 8 came from California 1 came from Washington State and 1 from Australia. Overall there was no LOSER! We also pretty much agreed that all were very similar and while nuances appeared from wine to wine, it was very difficult to pick one over another. We also decided to incorporate in our tasting sessions a standardized tasting form to make our ratings consistant. I have incorporated pictures of the tasting session.
The next Wine Club meeting will focus on Sparkling wines and Champagne.
Sincerely, The Cork Dork and The Blog-ette.

Wine Club October Meeting Date set!

Fellow winos... Save the date for the October tasting: Saturday October 14th at 6:45 sharp! The session will take place at Tom and Jen's place on the Cape. Directions will be emailed when you let me know that you are coming. 10 to 12 attendees is the maximum for this meeting. The theme is Merlot... get shopping, one bottle per attendee... remember... $20 and up! As we decided at the last meeting, call the Cork Dork when you make your purchase to avoid duplication. Unlike Sauvignon Blanc, the local selection of Merlot is broad... but still, call me anytime! My number will be in the email with the directions to Tom and Jen's House. Looking forward to this terrific opportunity!

Roasted Filet mignon, Bearnaise sauce and Silver Oak Cab...

While recently dining with our friends Jason and Julie (and their wonderful children, Kyle and Chloe) the Cork Dork and the Blog-ette sampled a 2002 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a rich, profound wine that beautifully balances concentration with finesse. It has a dark, ruby color and aromas of blackberry jam, soy sauce, violets and dark chocolate, with hints of cedar and cinnamon. The first impression in the mouth is one of smoothness and roundness. The wine offers a seamless, harmonious progression of fruit, chocolate and black tea tones, leading to an extremely long finish with supple tannins and echoes of berry fruit. It was a perfect compliment to a perfectly roasted tenderloin of Beef served with a Bearnaise sauce. Our friends really put on a show for us, as we were their first guests in their new home. We finished the evening on the patio with chocolate martinis... Did I mention that the blog-ette was feeling no pain?
Stay tuned for the October Wine Club anouncement...
