The first Wine Club meeting was a Success!

The first meeting was terrific! 9 participants brought 9 bottles and we had some interesting tasting notes. The overall favorite was a 2005 Lawson's Dry Hills Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc ($16) from New Zealand. Bright, intense lime and gooseberry character star in this zesty wine, with notes of green apple and grapefruit in the background. Balanced and long, it finishes with bracing acidity. It was a bottle brought in by Tom and Jill. Amazingly enough, one of our dissapointment was the Frog's Leap Sauvignon Blanc. Grgich Hills Fume Blanc, Artesia Sauvignon Blanc were some other well rated bottles. All in all, there was no loosers!
Tom and Jen offered to hold the next meeting, sometime in October, at their home on the Cape. The varietal that we will taste is Merlot! Stay posted for more information.
Also feel free to make comments to this blog to share your information with the other participants.
Yours trully,
the Cork Dork and the Blog-ette...

If you have confirmed your attendance to the monthly Wine Tasting, remember to bring One bottle of Sauvignon Blanc per person (Value of $20 and up) and make sure you arrive at 6:45 pm or 6:46 pm... or face the Cork Dork's flogging...
You might encounter difficulties finding a Sauvignon Blanc for $20 or up... exceptionally we will accept bottles valued at $15 and up... let's just make sure we taste some interesting, goood stuff!
The Cork Dork has a surprise up his sleeve.
Ladies... please take it easy on the perfume... and guys, hold the cologne!

Back from Canada, back from Los Angeles and off to Boston!

As the blog--ette wrote, Canada was quite an experience but the hiking was incredible. Email us at bluewindowswine@yahoo.com if you want the link to our hiking pictures. I have them posted on Flickr.com. After Banff, back to work... I was in Los Angeles (Anaheim) for a few days and I just arrived in Boston for yet another training job. I am telling you, I love the temperatures. In the mid-70's this afternoon and certainly in the low 60's by 7:30pm... Found a nice brick oven pizzeria for dinner... had a couple glasses of Sterling merlot. But let me tell you about this weekend: "Total Wine & More" won my business back. Saturday, Mari and I had Martin Ray Chardonnay 2005 ($15.99 - $2.00 coupon) with some Wild King Salmon purchased at Bonita Fresh Market. Excellent, medium body, tropical notes made the chardonnay for a good combination with the fish. "Fresh Market" of Bonita was a bit dissapointing... Should be named 'Not-so-Fresh Market" ... ok... it's off season we will try it again in full season. The King Salmon looked the freshest as well as some fresh Yellow Fin Tuna, which we had as an app while the salmon was grilling nicely! Sunday night we had some Chateau Potelle Sauvignon Blanc. I have personally met the owner-winemaker Jean-Marie and I have never been dissapointed in his wines. Sure enough, it was excellent, crisp, herbacious, and delicious with our chicken/vidalia onions/peppers kabobs! While at Total Wines, I also kidnapped a bottle of Weibel Grand Cuvee California Champagne for $7.99 which is enjoyable "au naturel" or as a base for Mimosa. It was a great week-end and so relaxing after a hard weekend in Banff!
We currently have 7 people signed up for the "Sauvignon Blanc" wine club on September 21st. Let us know soon if you are going to join us!
Yours Truly,
The Cork Dork!

Back from Canada Hiking

Hiking the mountains of Banff in Canada were amazing to say the least, hardly any time to drink wine. It was an experience of a lifetime. Our legs ached from a full 8 and 1/2 hours on Saturday followed by 6 hours of hiking on Sunday. Spectacular Scenery abounded. We'll gather our thoughts and post notes soon as the Cork Dork has once again jetted off to another far away destination, be it California at this date.

Still looking for a few more interested tasters for the Wine Tasting scheduled for September 21st!!! Email us at bluewindowswine@yahoo.com
